Pipe Break in Cold Weather

SERVPRO of NW Stark County received a phone call that a home needed clean up due to a pipe break. When our Production Manager opened the garage door this is what he found. A pipe had broken on the second floor of an apartment complex and the garage was underneath exposed to the cold temperatures. The water flowed through each floor level and froze once it hit the cold air in the garage.
5 Tips on how to avoid pipe breaks:
Tip No. 1: Turn up your heat.
If you are home or even away for an extended period of time you should keep your thermostat at above 65 degrees.
Tip No. 2: Open the cabinet doors to sinks.
Open cabinet doors to circulate the warm air around plumbing pipes especially to sinks that are on exterior walls.
Tip No. 3: Leave all sinks in your home on a trickle.
Leave faucets on at a little drip letting the water in the pipes have a continual flow through them.
Tip No. 4: Remove hoses from outdoor faucets.
Tip No. 5: Know where your main water shutoff is located in your home.
