Washing Machine Check your washing machine lines to avoid having water damage to your Massillion home.

Three causes of water damage that may not be covered by your homeowner’s insurance policy, but keeping an eye on these problems and taking preventative action will help you avoid water damage before it happens.

  • Roof- chronic roof leakage can severely damage the wood and attic structure ruin your insulation and can produce mold before you’re even aware that there might be a problem. By the time the roof leakage hits the attic materials and down through the ceiling into the living spaces extensive water damage has likely occurred. A couple of times a year or after a severe storm go into your attic and look for evidence of leaks.
  • Plumbing issues- Drips and other signs of plumbing dysfunctions should not be excepted as normal. A dripping water supply line is a red flag warning you of a potential catastrophic pipe breakage and that could flood your house with hundreds of gallons of water. Regularly inspect water supply lines anywhere they are visible. Look inside your cabinets, underneath kitchen and bathroom sinks, outside water spigots, remove the kick plate in front of your dishwasher and check water lines, check behind your refrigerator at your water supply line for your ice-maker, and don’t forget your washing machine lines.
  • Sewer problems- Buried in your yard are household sewer lines. These lines can harbor a potential water damage. Root intrusion other vegetation can collapse a sewer pipe. This can trigger a sewer back up into the house causing a toxic bio-hazard and requires extensive professional restoration to make the premises safe again. This is preceded by a few possible scenarios. 1-More than one drain could be clogged. 2- One drain backs up to another drain. 3-Hearing bubbling or gurgling noises. 4-Toilets that don’t flush. Calling a plumber is usually the standard to find out if your sewer lines have an issue. Having these lines inspected every 3 to 4 years will help deter any sewer backups into your home.
